520 | _aBanks are inevitably exposed to credit risk, as their function is not only limited to accepting deposits but also grant credit facilities to their customer. Additionally, credit risk management has gained the focus of many empirical studies; a rise in credit risk could adversely affect the performance of banks while questioning the overall stability of the banks. Therefore, this study empirically examines the effectiveness of Corporate Governance in the credit risk management of commercial banks in Maldives for the period of 2008*2017. The study samples includes 6 banks out of 8 banks operating in Maldives. Using secondary research, the method of analysis used for the data involves the correlation and regression analysis technique. Prior to these test, diagnosis test, such as normality, heteroscedasticity test and Serial Correlation test was conducted to check the reliability of data. In order to achieve the specific objectives, this study incorporated Corporate Governance variables, the board size, board composition, and the size of credit risk committee, while return assets was used as a performance indicator. The empirical analysis showed that the composition of the board of directors and the size of credit risk committee has no significant influence on the management of credit risk. Besides, the size of the Board and return on asset were found to be insignificant. | ||
